What to include in an order margin

A sale price is not the same as take-home profit. Write down the costs that belong to one order before estimating your margin.

Simple order estimate

Estimated order profit = selling price − product cost − platform and payment fees − shipping paid by seller − packaging − other order costs. Estimated margin = estimated profit ÷ selling price × 100.

Costs sellers often forget

Check what a fee is based on

A marketplace may calculate fees on more than the item price, or apply fixed charges and category-specific rules. Use the actual fee basis from your sales channel instead of assuming all fees are one percentage.

Keep estimates separate from bookkeeping

This tool helps with a quick planning estimate and is not accounting or tax software. Use your sales records and a qualified adviser for business reporting and tax decisions.
